Elizabeth B. Anderson Artist Statement

As an artist I like to ask questions and search for meaningful answers through the process of art making. My technique can be seen as a way of being. It is as much subtractive as it is additive. This is why I like encaustic painting. It is as important to dig through the layers to reveal what’s underneath as it is to add layers, a metaphor for life really.
My belief is that life is about choices but at the same time is very much influenced by randomness. Both encaustic and mixed media bring intent and chance into play. Even though I begin a painting with intention I also let the medium lead me to surprising results.
