I'm Still Here

The semester has started. I've got all my projects started and am hoping they'll be successful. My medical situation is a bit more complicated than I thought so my summer wasn't as productive as I had planned. It's psychologically draining as well as physically. Sigh. The paintings I planned to do were put on hold but aren't forgotten.

I did manage to get a piece into the Mail Art Exhibit at the Richmond Art Gallery. I almost didn't make the deadline. Funny how a little 5"x5" painting can cause so much activity in a short period of time. It was inspired by the photos of the BP Gulf of Mexico disaster. A FB friend publishes recent photos of Florida's shoreline showing that the oil is still washing up on the beaches killing marine life.

It's ink and acrylic on watercolour paper.

  7. Hi Elizabeth. I am so sorry to hear that you haven't been feeling well. I hope things improve quickly on that score. I absolutely love your painting! Great colors and I love the distinction between the placid clean sky and the horrid destruction on the ground. It really does highlight the problem in an intense manner. I am reminded of the squirming chaos of Garden of Earthly Delights by H. Bosch. I hope your semester goes well. Best Wishes!

  8. Thanks Stickup. It references the BP oil spill in the Gulf which is still washing up oil and dead wild life. Soon after I submitted it there was another oil spill off the coast of New Zealand with globs of tarry oil washing onto the beaches.
I'm hanging in waiting for another appointment with a new surgeon. I don't know how long it will take. The waiting is gnawing at me psychologically. My art making helps gives me some respite. One day at a time ...

  10. Sorry to read of your difficulties, Elizabeth. Sometimes it takes courage to face each day before facing up to a big event. It's very draining. But also sensitizing, and can feed into our art. Wishing you strength and endurance, and a speedy recovery.

I too have been away from painting, falling short of my intentions, and even away from blogging. So it's great to retuirn and find fantastic work like this!

    Warm greetz,
    Harry

  11. Thanks Harry. I'm sure I'll come through the other side. I have many role models, you being one, that keep me moving forward. I hope your health is good. Balancing health challenges and art making and other life tasks is sometimes not easy.
